According to §159-24.4 of the Warwick Township Code of Ordinances, every person in charge or control of any building or any land fronting or abutting on a paved sidewalk, whether as owner, tenant, occupant, lessee, or otherwise, shall remove and clear away, or cause to be removed and cleared away, snow and/or ice from the sidewalk in front of or abutting said building or lot of land. Snow and ice shall be removed from sidewalks within 36 hours after the cessation of any fall of snow, sleet, or freezing rain.
Due to the above average ice resulting from the winter storm on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 14th-15th 2017, we have postponed enforcement of this Ordinance until Monday, March 20th. Starting Monday, Code Enforcement Officers will compass the township and issue fines to property owners, tenants, or occupants who fail to remove snow/ice from their sidewalks. The fine is $50.00 if paid within 48 hours and escalates to $300.00 if found guilty before a District Justice.
While we understand clearing the sidewalk can be burdensome, many residents and school students use sidewalks to travel, exercise, and get to school. Thank you for your consideration.
